In between the 6th and 7th judgments the Apostle John sees four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds to prevent them from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.  Then he sees an angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He calls out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:  “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”  Then he hears the number of those who are sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. Twelve thousand from each tribe except the tribe of Dan.

After this John sees a uncountable group of people standing before the Lamb and God's throne wearing white robes and holding palm branches.  He describes the people as being from every tribe, nation, and language of the earth. They are worshiping God and the Lamb along with the elders of Israel and the angels. An angel tells John that the great multitude are "they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. " The angel tell John that never again will they be hungry, thirsty, deal with scorching heat, and they will have the lamb lead them to the springs of living water and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
